Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a debilitating autoimmune disease that leads to chronic synovitis, systemic inflammation, and comorbidities which together impair quality of life and increase mortality risk. Recent advances in the understanding of RA etiology and pathogenesis suggest that prevention of RA onset in at-risk individuals may be an attainable goal. This themed issue of Clinical Therapeutics features expert perspectives on the opportunities, challenges, and progress toward development of preventive approaches for RA.
